The fourth song of the album is called „Silence“. In the previous song „Seals“ six of the seven seals have been opened. The extinction of the world has begun. Wars, famines, plagues and catastrophic events ravage the earth and wipe out a fourth of mankind. „Silence“ is about the events immediately following this – the breaking of the seventh seal. That is described in Revelation chapter 8, verses 1-5.
When the lamb of God opens the seventh seal, there is silence in heaven for about half an hour. John, the narrator, witnesses how seven angels are given seven trumpets. Then, he beholds another angel who has a golden censer and stands in front of the altar. In Old Testament times (approx. 1500 B.C.) it had been customary to burn incense before God and then bring your prayers before him. Here, in John’s vision, incense is burned in the same way and the prayers of the saints brought before God. Saints in this context are all the people that believe in Jesus Christ and live a life in obedience to his Word.
Finally, the angel takes the censer, fills it with fire from the altar and tosses it on the earth – prelude to inconceivable destruction that now begins with thunder, lightnings and earthquake.
Here are the lyrics:
When he opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. And I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and to them were given seven trumpets. Another angel, who had a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense to offer, with the prayers of all the saints, on the golden altar before the throne. The smoke of the incense, together with the prayers of the saints, went up before God from the angel’s hand. Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and hurled it on the earth; and there came peals of thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning and an earthquake.
